Devising Workshop for Teachers and Drama Students

5 Hours minimum

This workshop will offer a process for devising physical theatre.

Bring a story and through physical skills, choric work, improvisation and text we will transform this story into a visually exciting, dynamically composed piece of theatre.
 
You will learn:

  • Physical skills
  • Improvisational exercises to create physical sculptures and choreography
  • Two person choric story-telling
  • Paths to non-naturalistic dramatisation of narrative
  • Ways to 'fuse' together all of the above into an exciting piece of theatre.

(Curriculum link A.S 3.3 AS 90609 - paired or solo devising for Year 13, level 3)

You will need:

  • Wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement.
  • Fitness an advantage!

  • Warm up
  • Physical skills: jumps and balances, sculptures
  • Improvisational exercises to develop devising skills
  • Devising task and presentation of work

Co.Theatre Physical have committed, passionate teachers who work in diverse settings. Beth Kayes has run physical theatre training and devising workshops over the last 20 years in Australia and New Zealand for theatre companies, schools, tertiary acting courses and community groups. Debbie Newby and Eve Gordon are also experienced educators, teaching circus skills and drama, for all ages, in schools, community groups, theatre companies and at the Auckland Performing Arts School.
