Welcome to Co Theatre Physical

Our aim is to innovate, to create theatre which is extraordinarily physical, hilarious, poignant and intensely visual. We combine acrobatics, aerial dance, story, comedy and inventive design to create shows for diverse audiences.

We perform for theatres, arts festivals, schools, pre-schools, corporate functions, community and street events, and also provide workshops.

Our Wild Feelings show WON the Playmarket NZ ‘Plays For The Young‘ 2023 in the 8-12 year old’s category! For years 1-6, this show combines the curriculum areas of Science and Hauora through the characters of a jealous tūī bird and a famous bar-tailed godwit (kūaka).

Our show Monarch was also the winner of the same Playmarket NZ ‘Plays For The Young‘ in 2021. Suitable for Years 1-6.

Wheel Head premiered at Q Loft for Summer at Q, February 2023. Wheel Head is an absurd romp down the cycleway of cancelled buses, avian romance and death by road cones. Performed by Katie Burson, Irasa Si’ave, Beth Kayes and with live music from Lucas Haugh.

“Co Theatre Physical have once again produced a comedic and engrossing piece. Mixing physical theatre, contemporary transport woes, live music, and light audience interaction, Wheel Head is a surprising and charming 50 minutes.”
– Irene Corbett, Theatre Scenes

“Kayes is a charismatic performer… perfectly comfortable performing on all scales, melding her adeptness with physical theatre with the poetry of her script. It’s a gentle, sensitive performance that smartly keeps the emotion of the piece bubbling under.” – Andrew Parker Theatre Scenes 2017
